Extended opening hours to be trialled at Aldeburgh
The announcement comes ahead of Barclays’ closure on 22 March, leaving the Society as the only financial services provider in the town.
Ipswich Building Society has announced it is to trial extended opening hours at its Aldeburgh branch, with the premises remaining open for an additional two hours on weekdays following demand from its existing members and local businesses.
The branch, which opened in Aldeburgh High Street in 1983, has pledged to maintain these hours for a six month trial period from 4 March. It will then decide whether to make the longer hours a permanent arrangement.
Over the festive season, the Society held one of its popular member events in the town, inviting a group of members to a Christmas wreath making workshop hosted at Cragg Sisters Tearoom. In March, a new group of Society members will return to Aldeburgh for a visit to The Red House, home of the British composer, Benjamin Britten.
Commenting on the announcement, Richard Norrington, Ipswich Building Society CEO, said: “Following the news of Barclays withdrawing from the town we have had several enquiries from members and non-members seeking to find an alternative place for their savings. I am pleased that we are able to respond to this and trial extended opening hours for the next six months.
“Whilst other providers have been closing branches we have seen increased demand for our face to face services and last year were able to open two new and improved premises in Ipswich and Woodbridge town centres.”
