Ipswich Building Society announces its support of 2016’s Twilight 10k & 5k Road Race in aid of Inspire Suffolk

Ipswich Building Society has announced it is continuing its sponsorship of the Twilight 10k & 5k Road Races organised by the Ipswich JAFFA Running Club in association with Ipswich Borough Council and Suffolk New College. This year’s event is in aid of Inspire Suffolk, a locally based organisation which uses education and sport as a way of making a difference to the lives of people living in and around Suffolk. It will take place on Friday 5th August from 7pm, with entries now open.

This is the second year the Ipswich Building Society Twilight Road Race has taken place and consists of two races on a flat town centre course. The 5k race is aimed at runners who can complete the course within 20 minutes (men) and 22 minutes (women), with cash prizes for top athletes. The 10k mass participation run to beat the sunset is a whistle-stop tour of Ipswich’s iconic buildings and is open to runners of all levels of abilities.

Races will start and finish outside Suffolk New College on Rope Walk, with participants taking in many of Ipswich’s iconic buildings such as the Willis building, Cornhill, Ancient House and Giles Circus to name but a few.
Race Director, Carl Ashton of Ipswich JAFFA Running Club, commented: “2015’s inaugural event attracted 803 participants in the 10k and 111 in the 5k, with its combination of elite race and mass participation run helping to make it accessible to everyone. We’re grateful to Ipswich Building Society for their help in getting the event up and running. We hope those who took part last year will join us again, and look forward to seeing some new faces for our 2016 run.”

Paul Winter, CEO of Ipswich Building Society, commented: “The race is a celebration of our county town, bringing people together to pass many of our iconic buildings whether they are a seasoned road runner or a complete novice. More importantly however, it will help us to raise funds for our chosen charity, Inspire Suffolk, which does fantastic work in providing local children, young people and adults with the chance to take part in sport, health improvement and educational activities that would otherwise not have access to and improve their lives. I ran the 10k race myself last year and I’m determined to beat my time, and the sunset, this summer.”

Terry Baxter, Chief Executive of Inspire Suffolk, said: “Last year we worked with over 60,000 local people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to help them better their lives and improve their skills through our wide ranging educational, health and sporting initiatives. The Ipswich Building Society Twilight Road Race will help to raise much needed funds that will allow us to continue to make a positive difference to those living in and around Suffolk.”
